Propecia is a drug that is effectively used to treat male pattern baldness. Рropecia cures hair loss of hormonal nature. The active ingredients in the tablets stimulate the formation of new hair follicles and the growth of healthy hair.
Alopecia (baldness) is the destruction of the hair follicle, which occurs due to the action of the biologically active form of the male sex hormone – dihydrotestosterone. Propecia has a mild effect on the body: finasteride inhibits the synthesis of the hormone, blocking its effect. Gradually, the process of hair loss slows down. A complete restoration of the hair bulb is possible. Propecia acts quickly and efficiently: hair begins to grow throughout the head, starting from the parietal part and ending with deep bald patches. Strong and healthy hair grows in place of weakened and fallen processes. In the process of regular intake of tablets in the human body, the slow conversion of testosterone to a more active substance occurs. It nourishes, activates and completely restores the external and internal state of the hair follicle. This drug does not affect the production of all enzymes, but only temporarily stops their effect.
Indications for use
Propecia is prescribed for the treatment of male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) to enhance hair growth and prevent further loss.
Mode of application
Take one tablet of Propecia once a day, regardless of food intake. If the patient has diseases of the stomach or intestines, it is better to take the drug with food. The course of treatment lasts one to two years. The tablet is recommended to take as a whole. If necessary, the medicine is washed down with a small amount of water.
- It is recommended to take the drug at the same time. Dose adjustment for older men is not required.
- If within 10-12 months there are no visible improvements, then continuing to take the drug is not recommended.
- If the result was, and the treatment is withdrawn prematurely, this can lead to the loss of already restored hair.
- If you missed taking Propecia tablets, the next day you need to use only one dosage. Do not increase the dose, as this will not lead to an improvement in the therapeutic effect.
Propecia is contraindicated in young mothers during lactation. Pregnant women are recommended to avoid contact with this medicine, even if it is coated. This option can cause abnormalities in the development of the external genitalia of the male fetus.
During lactation, the drug is not prescribed, since today there is no information on whether the active substance penetrates into breast milk. It is not recommended to use tablets for men who have prostate diseases caused by urinary tract infections, impaired renal function, endocrine disease, and liver failure.
The drug is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age, young men under 18 years of age and the elderly. Propecia is contraindicated in the case of individual intolerance to the active substance.
The interaction with alcohol
Alcohol intake is the main hair loss cause. Alcohol is not excreted from the body for a long period of time, which means it contributes to a blockage of blood vessels. Consequently, the patient’s blood flow to the head worsens.
In order for baldness treatment to be successful and effective, it is recommended to completely abandon the use of alcoholic beverages. In alopecia treatment, it is recommended to adhere to proper nutrition. The diet includes more foods rich in calcium, iron, vitamins, and minerals. The menu should include:
- green vegetables;
- dairy and legumes;
- gelatin-containing foods;
- sea fish;
It is recommended to refrain from eating fatty, spicy, salty, fried, or spicy foods, sweet pastries.
Propecia is well tolerated. Studies show that if side effects did appear, they were insignificant and mild. Interruption of treatment was not required. Most often, patients complained of:
- potency reduction;
- violation of erection;
- development of erectile dysfunction;
- reduction in sperm volume during intercourse.
