Testing at the Adult Learning Center (ALC)

The Thomas Jefferson Adult Career Education program offers 
GED® testing at the Adult Learning Center in Charlottesville, VA. We are an official Pearson VUE testing site and offer GED® exam testing in addition to a variety of other assessments.

REGISTRATION:  Students will need to have an email address and then create a My GED account to be able to register for the exam(s) online at www.ged.com

LATE ARRIVAL POLICY: students should be aware that if candidates are more than 15 minutes late for their exam, they will not be allowed to test and will forfeit their payment. Their test results will automatically be entered in the testing system as a "no show".

Also the rescheduling and canceling is as follows: 'GED® Testing Service students must reschedule and cancel test appointments at least 24 hours before the appointment via the student website, call center, or the test center. Appointments must be rescheduled within the authorized test delivery period. If a student is within 24 hours of their scheduled appointment, they can take the test or not take the test. If he or she does not take the test, it will be treated as a no show. Students who attempt to reschedule or cancel their appointment less than 24 hours from their appointment will forfeit their test fees.' (GED® Testing Service Client Reference, Dec. 2013) 

WEATHER CANCELLATIONS:  The TJACE Charlottesville Adult Learning Center is a part of Charlottesville City Schools. As such, if Charlottesville City Schools closes for any reason (bad weather such as snowing), so does the Charlottesville Adult Learning Center.

For exams on Friday: When the decision is made that schools will be closed all day or will open late, the announcement will be made by 5:30 a.m. whenever possible. When schools close early because weather is getting worse, the announcement will be made by 10:30 a.m. whenever possible.

Closings and schedule changes are announced as follows. Please do not phone the school or media stations for this information.


If there is a delayed opening, the exams will take place as scheduled. It is recommended that exam candidates check the status of school closings when there is expected inclement weather or snow. 

For exams on Saturday: exam candidates should call 434-245-2817 to listen for a message about the test center closing.
